Hi, Peter at Toplift here. Today I’ll show you how to install a wind deflector on a BMW E30 Convertible.
First, I’d like to show you how the wind deflector fits into the trunk of the car. This is what it looks like when it’s folded and placed inside.
I’ve now placed the wind deflector behind the front seats. To install it, I first need to open the rear cover and position the rear supports underneath it.
At the front of the wind deflector, there’s a spring-loaded pin that can be pulled out and then released. This pin fits into the mounting point near where the seat belt comes out of the side trim.
I’ll show you how it works. I pull the pin out, position the wind deflector against the side of the car, and release the pin into the mounting point. Then I rest the rear support in position underneath the cover.
It’s the same procedure on the other side. I pull out the spring-loaded pin, guide it into the mounting hole, position the rear support behind the cover, and close the cover again.
The BMW E30 wind deflector is now securely installed. You can also raise the upright section to provide even more protection against the wind while driving.
It’s autumn outside now, and a wind deflector can make a real difference to the comfort of driving a convertible. In a moment, I’ll show you just how much difference it makes.
We’re now driving at approximately 70 km/h with the windows fully down and no wind deflector installed. As you can see from my hair, there’s quite a bit of wind turbulence inside the car.
Next, we’ll see what happens when we raise the side windows, still without using the wind deflector.
Now the windows are up, but there’s still no wind deflector in place. The situation is noticeably better, although there’s still some wind turbulence inside the cabin. We’re still travelling at around 70 km/h.
Now we’re driving at the same speed, approximately 70 km/h, but this time with the wind deflector installed and the side windows raised.
As you can see, the environment inside the car is much calmer. There’s less wind blowing around the cabin, and the noise level is also reduced. The wind deflector makes a noticeable difference to driving comfort.
